Despite the pandemic plastic surgery boom, demand for procedures has only grown. In 2020, Americans spent almost $9 billion on plastic surgery, and in 2021, surgeons say that the industry is expected to reach a revenue of over $100 billion. According to one surgeon, the demand for plastic surgery is so strong that 2021 is already being referred to as the “heyday” of plastic surgery.

For most plastic surgeons, Christmas and Halloween are the busiest times of year for their practice. It’s also because many parents have to pay for their insurance deductibles. However, since the past year and a half has passed, many surgeons have experienced that fast-paced work-life nonstop. Here are a few reconstructive surgery trends we can expect to see throughout the rest of 2022.

Less Facial Procedures

In 2020, three of the most popular procedures were on the face, and in 2021, face-lifts and rhinoplasty were two of the most prominent procedures. Despite the national pause in elective procedures that year, the popularity of these procedures continued to outstrip that of breast augmentation.

In 2021, the number of requests for facial procedures started to decrease, and body procedures became more popular. According to David Sieber, a board-certified plastic surgeon in San Francisco, the decline in the popularity of certain aesthetic procedures was due to the increasing number of people looking for alternatives.

Ear Pinning Is Becoming Popular

Traditionally, ear pins have been performed on children in middle school. During this stage, the ear is fully formed, and the procedure can help boost a child’s self-esteem. Dr. David Pittman saw a spike in adult patients in 2021 due to the increasing number of people who are hyper-focused on their appearance during Zoom calls.

The Economy Will Continue To Affect The Industries Future

According to Dr. David Pittman, a plastic surgeon, a strong economy can help boost the confidence of people who are already spending a lot of money on a major procedure. He claims that a strong market economy can also help boost the demand for plastic surgery.

Despite the various factors that can affect the demand for plastic surgery, Dr. Pittman believes that the industry will continue to grow in the future. However, he doesn’t think that we can predict exactly how it will turn out. He claims that the rise of COVID has made the future of plastic surgery unpredictable.
